FAQ
What is ePaperFlip™ and what's its purpose?
- It's a digital publishing application capable of creating online publications designed to complement - or, ultimately, supersede - conventional print editions. Its advanced page-turning technology not only replicates the offline reading experience but also provides many additional features to enhance this experience - such as interactive rich content, the inclusion of all kinds of links, the opportunity to print pages or email them to friends, and much more besides.
- It's suitable not only for all kinds of news media - national, regional and local newspapers, consumer magazines, business-to-business, trade and specialist titles and so on - but also catalogs, programs, brochures, flyers...
- In short, it represents a vital new communication channel for any business seeking wider engagement with the demanding, affluent and increasingly media-savvy twenty-first century audience.
Will my readers need to download special software to view an ePaperFlip™ digital edition?
- No! Digital editions are streamed to the reader in much the same way as web pages are viewed. Flash 8 is required, although this is already installed in most computers. If you do not already have Flash 8, it is available to download for free. ePaperFlip™ Digital Editions are designed to be universally available. Corporate networks frequently block users downloading specialist software and ePaperFlip™ avoids this problem.
What does a reader require?
- All a reader needs is internet access and a browser.
- ePaperFlip™ also requires a minimum of Flash 8 however most browsers today have this installed. If a reader does not have Flash 8 installed then ePaperFlip™ will prompt the user to install it and will provide links for this.
Are there any limits to the size of the Free No Obligation Preview Edition I can create?
- No, you can create your entire publication (or we can create it for you), regardless of size, so you can see the quality and benefits of an ePaperFlip™ digital edition.
how long I can keep my Free Preview Edition?
- The preview edition will be available to you for a whole week to allow you to discuss your digital edition internally, show any external advertisers and make a decision on whether you would like it to go live.
Will readers be expected to pay for access?
- As the publisher, this is entirely up to you. You may wish to allow your readers free access to all parts of the online publication, or you may require them to pre-pay before accessing anything. Naturally, there’s also a whole range of intermediate options between these extremes, which we’ll be happy to discuss with you.
How much will it all cost?
- As you probably understand, costs will depend on the nature of your specific requirement. That said; our prices - which can be quoted per page or per publication, depending on the number and frequency of your editions - are always extremely competitive. Please contact us to discuss your requirements.
How will readers access my digital editions?
- As the publisher, it’s entirely up to you. You can choose whether to put a direct link on your website, or to feature a link in the ‘members only’ part of your website. (These links will automatically go to the latest edition, so there’s no need to update them.)
- You can also send the link out via email. A great advantage of this is that the email does not contain anything that spam control software may mistake as spam.
- You also have an option to burn ePaperFlip™ files onto a CD and send out to people. An internet connection is not needed to view ePaperFlip™ on a CD (This is an option of an off line version).
How do I publish my digital editions?
- Once an account has been set up you can upload your PDF files and we will process your publications using our ePaperFlip™ technology.
- We can provide training either by phone or arrange a meeting with you to show you how to use the ePaperFlip™ system. We also have a step by step guide so meetings may not be necessary.
- You will upload single PDF file to our server. You then pick a date and time to process the PDFs.
- Once your pages have been processed a link of the publication is sent to you by email.
What do I need to name the PDFs?
- You should include the name and number of the publication as well as the publishers name or ID and finally the date for the publication.
What about Quality?
- Standard resolution is 72dpi. The higher the resolution of the PDF files the better the quality of the end result. We also use a vector technology that ensures the highest resolution possible for all text. We have an even higher resolution for the
Zoom In viewing mode, which offers infinite zoom.
What about links?
- We at ePaperFlip™ can automatically create internal and external links from the PDF.
What about reading an ePaperFlip™ publication offline?
- This is up to the publisher. They can choose to allow extracts to be created in PDF format and stored locally for offline reading.
- Another option is to create a CD for physical distribution as mentioned earlier.
Who does ePaperFlip™ use to host my publications?
- We dedicated numerous servers specifically for hosting our customers publications. We guarantee virtually 100% uptime for our servers, which mean your digital edition will always be available, 24/7, without fail.
Can I host the ePaperFlip™ publication myself?
- No. ePaperFlip™ hosts your publications to ensure maximum security with our global server network. The reasons for this are so we can keep our costs down and service levels up. We do not allow the risk external factors to degrade our service.
- We also leverage global network of backbone servers to ensure that your content is not exposed to a single point of failure, meaning 100% up-time, support and security for your digital editions 24 hours a day, seven days a week. The statistics-reporting package will not operate outside our system. Gathering data for the statistics package requires feedback to our servers from wherever the digital edition is read in the world. We cannot guarantee security, page delivery speeds and up-time if our digital editions are not hosted by ourselves. There's also a risk of crashing smaller servers if your publication receives a large volume of traffic. In addition, the software is upgraded from time to time. This is a seamless operation on our servers but potentially problematic if hosting is outside of ePaperFlip’s control.
What does a publisher require?
- As a hosted solution all you need is internet connection and a browser.
- ePaperFlip™ can run on all PC and Macintosh browsers.
As a reader what do I do next?
- If it is not already available via ePaperFlip™, ask the publisher of your favourite reading material why they do not yet have an ePaperFlip™ version.
